Savannah/Savi escaped eleven years of abuse at the hands of her father and finally made a safe life for herself and her daughter. But when her father once again threatens her peace of mind—and her daughter’s safety—Savi runs to Damian Orlando for protection. Eight years earlier as Savannah, she shared one perfect day with Damian that changed both their young lives and resulted in a secret she no longer can hide. But being with Damian reawakens repressed memories and feelings she wants to keep buried. After witnessing a scene with Damian on Savi’s first night at his private club, however, she begins to wonder if he could help her regain control of her life and reclaim her sexuality and identity.

Damian, a wounded warrior, has had his own dragons to fight in life, but has never forgotten Savannah. He will lay down his life to protect her and her daughter, but doesn’t believe he can offer more than that. She deserves a whole man, something he can never be after a firefight in Iraq. Damian has turned to SM to regain control of his life and emotions and fulfills the role of Service Top to “bottoms” at the club. However, he could never deliver those services to Savi, who needs someone gentle and loving, not the man he has become.

Will two wounded survivors find love and healing in each other’s arms?

This would probably be the most touching story in the series. Both the hero and the heroine went through dramatic hurdles in the past. I don’t think I’ve read of a heroine whose past has been as tragic as Savannah’s. I am giving this book four red hearts because of the roller coaster of events that happened in the story.

Savannah was repeatedly raped and prostituted by her father since she was eight. She was sold to sexual sadists to be tortured to their hearts content. They were allowed to do whatever they wanted with her except the actual penetration. Her father and his business partner also branded her with her father’s initial’s to reinforce his ownership of her.

Damian was a lowly latino who worked in her father’s hotel as a busboy. He fell in love with her at first sight. He saved her when he heard her screams while she was being tortured. They spent an entire day together which resulted in Savannah getting pregnant and finally having the courage to run away from her father and seek refuge at a latino community.

I really feel sorry for both Savannah and Damian. Savannah’s life has not been easy, but she survived. Even if there were times in the book where I really thought she’d lose it, she remained strong and found a way to fight her demons. When Lyle kidnapped her and brought her to her father to be tortured and raped again, she was able to hang on until Damian could save her.

Damian, on the other hand, survived war and disability. He found a purpose by being a service top in the BDSM club he owned with Marc and Adam. He became a sensual sadist who was trustworthy and efficient. I also admire the way he was very patient with Savannah and helped her overcome her trauma and fear. He was also a great dad to Marisol and readily loved the child even before he became sure that he was the father.

The reason I loved this book was because it showed two broken, lost souls who found each other again after being separated for a very long time. The book showed us that no matter how big our trials are, as long as we don’t lose sight of who we are and we don’t let go of the kindness that’s left in us, there is always hope, always something good waiting for us. In Savannah and Damian’s book, Kallypso Masters has created a story that is more than just romance and kink but also one of faith, family, friendships and healing.
