Review

I received an ARC if this book from the publisher via NetGalley I exchange for an honest review.

This author is new to me. I requested for a copy if this book in NetGalley because the blurb sounded interesting. Apart from cover art, I have a thing for good blurbs. Sometimes, I pick up a book because it had a well written, teasing blurb, but I end up regretting my decision. Sometimes too, I almost miss out on a book because I didn’t think it was good because the blurb didn’t catch my attention.

With Beautiful Criminal, it was neither of the two. I did not end up regretting my decision to request for a copy. It was just that I didn’t really fall in love with the book as well. To be fair, the premise of the story was good. The idea was good. I think the execution was a bit of a let down.

I have nothing against insta-lust. Its just that in this book, the attraction felt too rushed, too immediate. I guess it’s because the book was just a short length novella type story. The plot called for a longer writing because I would have liked to read more about the action part. Kind of like the Harlequin Intrigue novels where the hero and heroine are usually running for their lives while coming to terms with their feelings for each other at the same time.

It is still a good book all in all. I understand the authors intention behind the whole plot. I just feel bad that the exciting story line was not pursued and instead only focused too much on the romance side. The truth is, I feel like if the action and suspense part of the book was extended a bit, it would have helped a lot in the development of the romance angle and would have made the love story more believable.
