Review

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am ashamed to admit that I’ve never read a book from Marissa Clarke before. I did see the release of the book that preceded Chance Of A Lifetime, and I don’t know why I didn’t pick it up for review. Maybe I had too many books scheduled, or maybe I was just stupid. Anyway, when I read the blurb for this book, I just couldn’t let it pass. It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for that friends-to-lovers trope. Add in the forbidden kind of love element, and I’m all in.

I really liked this book’s heroine. While she had challenges all her life, her spirit was alive and brave. There may have been years when she was controlled by her family, but come one, we all make sacrifices for the ones we love. That includes setting aside the things we want and trying to live our lives in a way that keeps them from worrying about us.

The main characters were great together. I liked their transition from friends to falling in love to trying to keep their feelings a secret and everything in between and after. I think I am really going back to the first two books in this series because I believe Ms. Clarke is a very good writer, and if the other two are as good as this, then I’d be so happy. She’s now an author I will definitely be watching out for.
