Review

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

First, let me tell you honestly that I’ve never read a book from Kerrigan Byrne before. But I wanted this book because I loved the cover, and the blurb was very interesting. I know this is the second book, so I made sure I also got the first book in case I end up loving this one and want to go back and read the first. Turns out, I was right.

The Hunter kind of combines dark romance with historical romance in a sense that this is no society hero and no coming of age innocent heroine. The hero was a killer. He had no qualms about murdering people. He was very good at his job. He never misses a hit, until the heroine becomes his target. For most part of the book, I found it a bit hard to love the hero. The heroine was a different story because I liked her right away.

I guess the best thing about the book was the way the author was able to turn the story around. She made a flawed character, one who was established as a difficult character to like become a good, solid factor in the story. I wasn’t really expecting to end up wanting the main characters together, but that’s what happened. I don’t know when I started rooting for the hero, but I did. Now, I will definitely go back and read The Highwayman because I find that I like Ms. Byrne’s brand of historical.
