Lady Grace Carpenter is ready to seize the day—or rather, the night—with the most compelling man she’s ever known. Marriage would mean losing guardianship of her beloved siblings, and surely no sane gentleman will take on seven children not his own. But if she can have one anonymous tryst with Mattheus, Earl of Worthington, Grace will be content to live out the rest of her life as a spinster.
Matt had almost given up hope of finding a wife who could engage his mind as well as his body. And now this sensual, intelligent woman is offering herself to him. What could be more perfect? Except that after one wanton night, the mysterious Grace refuses to have anything to do with him. Amid the distractions of the Season he must convince her, one delicious encounter at a time, that no obstacle—or family—is too much for a man who’s discovered his heart’s desire…
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I don’t think I’ve ever read anything from Ella Quinn before. And I try to stay clear of historical romances, especially if I haven’t tried out the author yet. However, I took a chance on this book when I saw this on NetGalley because it’s a first book in a series. All in all, I quite liked the book. It wasn’t as great as I would have hoped, but it delivered what I wanted, which was a few hours of escape.
I liked the way Ms. Quinn painted a historical vibe in the book. I felt them to be authentic. I could easily see myself with the characters, living during those times. I wasn’t a huge fan of the characters, particularly the heroine. But all in all, I enjoyed this book enough to want to read on and wait for the next installments to come out. If you’ve read Ms. Quinn’s historical romances before, you will surely enjoy this book.
Ella Quinn lived all over the United States, the Pacific, Canada, England and Europe before finally discovering the Caribbean. She lives in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands with her wonderful husband, three bossy cats and a loveable great dane.
