RIVER OF LOVE
The Bradens- Peaceful Harbor, MD #3
Melissa Foster
Releasing on April 20th, 2016
World Literary Press

Fall in love with Sam Braden in the Bradens of Peaceful Harbor. Hot, sexy, & wickedly naughty second cousins to the Weston, Colorado Bradens we know and love.
River rafting and adventure company owner Sam Braden works hard and plays harder. He’s fast, focused, and determined—and never at a loss for a willing woman to share his time with. The trouble is, the only woman he wants refuses him at every turn.
Physician assistant Faith Hayes escaped her painful past and built a safe, happy life in Peaceful Harbor. She’s also put what she’s learned to good use helping others by founding Women Against Cheaters, an online support group. When her boss’s sinfully sexy brother sets his sights on sweet Faith, she knows the self-professed player is everything she shouldn’t want, and she’s determined to resist him.
Sam pulls out all the stops, proving to Faith that his past doesn’t have to define his future. As she lets down her guard and begins to trust Sam, intense conversations turn to intimate pleasures. But when real life steps in and their pasts collide, it’s Faith who’s left with something to prove.

In my eyes, I don’t think Ms. Foster could every write a bad book. I think she has mediocre books, but even that is just my opinion and is certainly up for debate. I mean, ever since the first book I read from her, I immediately became a fan. I loved the way her main characters are very easy to like, relate to, and root for. This book is no different from any other MF book I’ve read, because there’s the chemistry, emotion, and development present in the plot, as with every book from her.

River Of Love follows the trope that the player is usually the one who falls the fastest and the hardest. This was the hero. He was a player, to be honest. But the moment he found the one woman for him, he went out of his way to win her. He became this sweet, romantic man whose heart was out there for the taking. The heroine had no chance. Then again, just because the hero was the former player doesn’t mean he’s going to be the one to break the heroine’s heart, right?

I really liked the conflict and the high point of the story. Of course, I also loved how MF’s secondary characters also grab a reader’s attention. These characters aren’t there just to complete the story. No, the also have a significant part to the plot itself. I really enjoyed River Of Love. If I wasn’t a fan of Ms. Foster before, I definitely am one now.

Synopsis

A woman’s work

Amy Slaten has devoted her life to Slaten Industries. After ousting her corrupt father and taking over the CEO role, she thought she could relax and enjoy taking her company to the next level. But an old business rivalry rears its ugly head. The only thing that can possibly take her mind off business is the training class at Sanctum…and her training partner, the gorgeous and funny Flynn Adler. If she can just manage to best her mysterious business rival, life might be perfect.

A man’s commitment

Flynn Adler never thought he would fall for the enemy. Business is war, or so his father always claimed. He was raised to be ruthless when it came to the family company, and now he’s raising his brother to one day work with him. The first order of business? The hostile takeover of Slaten Industries. It’s a stressful job so when his brother offers him a spot in Sanctum’s training program, Flynn jumps at the chance.

A lifetime of devotion….

When Flynn realizes the woman he’s falling for is none other than the CEO of the firm he needs to take down, he has to make a choice. Does he take care of the woman he’s falling in love with or the business he’s worked a lifetime to build? And when Amy finally understands the man she’s come to trust is none other than the enemy, will she walk away from him or fight for the love she’s come to depend on?

Here we are again with another installment of Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series. Although Devoted is a short one, as every other book in the 1001 Dark Nights imprint, I have to say that this book definitely packs a punch. I love the gist of the story. I liked both main characters because they were actually good people despite their families and backgrounds. I think they made a great pair, but they were also great on their own.

I really like the world/community that Ms. Blake created in Sanctum. Even if you aren’t into kink and BDSM, the way that Ms. Blake writes about that world makes readers curious and makes them understand the dynamics, the appeal, and the basics of BDSM. Aside from that, Ms. Blake is really good at creating a love story that is injected with so much steam. But, the bottomline is that it is still a love story. I like that.

Although I really love my M&M stories to be the full length books, I still really liked this book. If you’ve followed the series, this is something you shouldn’t miss. Yes, it’s just a novella, but it is still a significant installment in the series as a whole. I look forward to more characters in the Sanctum world.

He was either falling deeper into her web or she was getting closer to him. It didn’t matter tonight. Tonight, all that mattered was she was here.

“So, how are you really feeling? Will told me I should give you something if your muscles start to ache.” It was the only damn reason he hadn’t attacked her in the shower. Sometimes it took a few hours for the pain to set in. He didn’t want to give her more. He could wait.

Her hand went to his thigh as she moved slightly away from him so she could look at his face. “I feel great. I feel better than great. I am tired though. Long day. Maybe we should turn in.” She frowned. “I don’t have a toothbrush.”

Oh, she of little faith. “I had one delivered along with the prescriptions Will called in for you if you need them. One’s for pain and the other is an anti-inflammatory.”

“I don’t need them.” She sat back and it was the first time since the shower that she hadn’t been touching him. “Where do you want me to sleep?”

“You can take my bedroom.” He probably wouldn’t sleep at all. He would sit out here and work. It was what he usually did at night. He would sit in his perch high above the city and work until it was almost dawn. “The bed is very comfortable.”

“But you won’t be in it.”

This was the moment he’d been waiting for, kind of dreading and desperately anticipating all at the same time. “Not if I think I could hurt you.”

She huffed a little and stood up. “I’ll be back.”

He reached out and gripped her wrist. “Where do you think you’re going?”

“To find a doctor who will write me a note so you’ll have sex with me.”

He couldn’t help but smile at that. She was pouting like a kid who’d lost her favorite toy. This was why he’d pushed her to cry in the shower. He needed this Amy back. His Amy. He’d hated how polite and courteous she’d been when they’d been in public. Oh, she’d allowed him to handle some things, but her smile hadn’t reached her eyes and not a single sarcastic remark had passed those luscious lips of hers. It was wrong and counter to everything he’d come to know about her.

This Amy boldly told him what she wanted and was willing to do whatever it took to get it.

This Amy wanted him.

Just friends.We’re just friends.

No, really. She’s just my best friend…

Arizona Turner has been my best friend since fourth grade, even when we “hated” each other. We’ve been there for one another through first kisses, first “times,” and we’ve been each other’s constant when good relationships turned bad. (We even went to colleges that were minutes away from each other…)

Throughout the years, and despite what anyone says, we’ve never crossed the line.

Never thought about it.

Never wanted to.

Until one night changed everything.

At least, it should’ve …

Just friends.

We’re just friends.

I’m only saying this until I figure out if she’s still “just” my best friend…

Friends-to-lovers. While I will always be partial to the second chance romance trope, I have to admit that there is nothing cuter than the good ole friends-to-lovers cliche. Sincerely, Carter is a sweet story about two best friends who never, in theire wildest dreams, thought they would fall in love with each other. But they did. And the journey they took to self discovery, love, and triumph was a great journey I got to go on.

Listening to the story on audio really upped my love for the book. If I just read it on my Kindle, I would have loved the book. But because I also got to listen to the story, it seemed like the characters really came to life. Of course, I have to say that the narrators did a great job of portraying Carter and Ari. I am really glad I got to get my hands on an audio copy of this book. I know I haven’t had anything from this author before. But after Sincerely, Carter, I am definitely going to read her other books as well.

Slow_amazonWhen Greyson Archer tosses a twenty on the stage of a strip club, the last thing he expects to see are the haunted

Greyson can’t deny that he’d like his own private show, but there’s not a chance in hell of that happening. The last time the former Navy SEAL saw her she was dressed in black, holding a folded flag and sobbing that it was all his fault… and he agreed with every single word. He couldn’t do anything to help her then, but he can now.

Finley deserves better than this dingy club, and when an obsessed customer crosses the line, Greyson leads the rescue and will do whatever it takes to make amends for their broken past.

He never expected to want to settle down, but with Finley, everything is different. For the first time ever, he can breathe. But Greyson will have to fight for what he wants in order to keep the woman with the green eyes he’s dreamed about so often.

Review

I received an ARC of this book from InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review and as part of the book’s blog tour promotions.

Who doesn’t love a Navy SEAL hero, right? I mean, come on. It works like a magic word. Whenever a book says that the hero is an ex-agent, ex-military, ex-Navy SEAL or even ex-whatever, as long as it has something to do with fighting and protecting, any reader can expect an alpha male. And that’s exatcly what this book’s hero is. This man is an alpha, a protector, a fierce fighter for what’s his. He is exactly what the poor widow and her daughter needs.

I like that this book didn’t get too intense right away. Yes, the sparks and chemistry are there. But it doesn’t take you in right away. Instead, it lets that attraction simmer until it becomes too hot. Of course, another thing that I like is that fact that there is a child involved. I always love these stories. As a second book, this book is totally a standalone. If you haven’t read the first book, well, you should. But if you haven’t, don’t let that stop you from picking this book up. I think that story-wise, the first book was better story-wise because honestly, this story is actually simple. However, Greyson Archer definitely takes the crown as my favorite hero in the series so far.

Excerpt

It was nine o’clock on a Saturday night and I was totally out of my fucking element. A bottle of red wine tucked under one arm. A bouquet of wild flowers in the other. A condom tucked into my wallet, just in case. I was in foreign territory, and my entire body knew it – tense shoulders, my heart beating like a drum, and arousal barely contained beneath the surface.

Finley was standing at the doorway, watching me with a confused expression.

She looked gorgeous, makeup free, pink-painted toes, hair mussed and loose. Little cotton pajama shorts and a tank top that hugged her lush breasts.

“Maple’s not here.” She said the words, but she knew as well as I did I wasn’t here for Maple.

“I know that.” My voice was sure and confident.

“Then why are you … oh.” Finley shifted her weight, her eyes dropping from mine as she saw the wine and flowers. She could read it all, plain as day. I knew she could see my intentions, my uncertainty, and underneath it all, my desire. Maybe it was the desire to fix everything I’d broken, or maybe it was just my desire for her as a man desires a woman.

Normally when I felt that primal urge for sex, I headed to West’s bar. I’d pick out a woman for the night. Share a few drinks with her, a few laughs. Later, we’d head back to my place and fuck until dawn. And that was it. I’d be set for a few months.

This … with the courting and the nerves … it was nothing like my standard operating procedure.

I’d never felt so stripped bare and vulnerable. Never put myself out there so completely with a woman before. But then again, Finley was unlike any woman I’d ever met.

And she was still just standing there. “Can I come inside?” I asked, heart in my throat.

She didn’t say anything. But she opened the door wider.

With Nolan’s words ringing in my ears, I stepped over the threshold, sure that whatever happened tonight had the power to heal us both.

Review

I received an ARC of this book from Rock Star Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the first installment of this series. It was all kinds of sexy and sweet, and I really fell in love with the hero. I was excited for this book because it’s the friends-to-lovers trope. We are now on the second Kincaid brother, Mason, the player, the manwhore, the tattoo artist, the one who had a best friend who was in love with him. Yep, I was looking forward to Kat and Mason’s book since their romance was teased on book 1.

Initially, I found it a bit difficult to like to even relate to the heroine. However, as I read on, I found myself like her more and more. I think she is the best match for Mason. She’s the one who’s always been there. She has her own tragedy, but she was a survivor. I especially like the fact that the authors added more depth to her character instead of being just a friend who has been secretly in love with the hero for years. She was also a complex woman who went through lots of things when she was younger, and both she and Mason understood each other in their own way.

I think I still prefer the Saint over his brother, but this story is just as good and entertaining as the previous book. I can’t wait for the next book. Thie third brother seemed too goody-two-shoes on paper. I can’t wait to see how kinky he can be. I can’t wait to be surprised.

Teaser

“WE’RE OFF TO Las Vegas, Kitty-Kat,” Mason Kincaid said as he rubbed his hands together in anticipation. “Sin City is the perfect place to get down and dirty and have some fun. What kind of trouble do you think we can get into while we’re there?”

Katrina Sands buckled her seat belt and settled more comfortably in the first-class leather seat next to Mason—her best friend since they were fourteen and freshmen in high school. She wasn’t at all surprised that he was already making a mental list of all the wild and reckless adventures that awaited him in a no-holds-barred place like Las Vegas. Mason Kincaid was a rule breaker, a thrill seeker, and a self-indulgent bad boy who was all about pleasure and instant gratification. From everything she’d heard about the city that never slept, he’d be right in his element.

Oh, joy, she thought with a resigned sigh. It wasn’t as though she was a prude. Far from it. She just wasn’t thrilled about watching her best friend’s man-whoring ways in action in Vegas. She spent enough time seeing it up close and personal on a day-to-day basis.

She turned her head and met Mason’s bright blue gaze. “You do realize that this trip isn’t all about you and your dick, right? That we’re heading to Vegas because your brother Clay is marrying Samantha?” she asked, reminding him of that one important detail.

The corners of his mouth curved with an indulgent grin. “Of course I realize my brother is strapping on the old ball and chain tomorrow afternoon. But that doesn’t mean the entire weekend is going to be all wedding, all the time. In fact, tonight Levi and I plan to take Clay out to make sure he spends his last evening as a bachelor in style.”

Which gave Mason the perfect opportunity to carouse for a willing female to take back to his hotel room for the night. It’s what Mason did. For as long as she’d known him, he’d had a hit-it-and-quit-it motto when it came to women, and he always made sure they knew the score up front. He didn’t make promises or do commitment or anything longer than a one-time fling.

And each time Katrina watched it happen, a little bit of hope died inside of her. The hope that one day Mason would see her as more than just a best friend and the woman who managed to keep his personal and professional shit together. But the man was oblivious to her deeper feelings for him, and she wasn’t willing to tell him and risk certain painful rejection. It was much easier, and safer, keeping them both squarely in the friend zone.

She’d known him for twelve years, and had truly come to believe that Mason Kincaid didn’t have the ability to commit to any single woman. And it really wasn’t hard for her to figure out why considering the kind of childhood he’d had—no father figure to speak of and a mother who cared more about her next fix than her own kids. Mason might be a master at giving off a carefree, I-don’t-give-a-crap attitude, but Katrina was one of the few people who knew just how much pain and resentment that laid-back demeanor really masked.

The commercial plane they were taking to Las Vegas finished the boarding process, and one of the cabin crew started closing the overhead luggage bins, while another made an announcement to set all electronic devices to airplane mode. A pretty brunette flight attendant stopped next to Mason’s aisle seat and set her hand on his shoulder.

He glanced up at her, and the woman smiled, her complexion flushing a bit as he turned all that potent male sex appeal her way. Yeah, Mason had that kind of breathtaking effect on women. Between his gorgeous features, that sexy, panty-dropping smile, and his sleeves of bad boy tattoos that wrapped around both muscled arms, he was an irresistible force to the female gender.

And the jerk knew it, too, and didn’t hesitate to use that charm to his advantage.
